Arrival day

Arrive at Belize City, transfer to hotel; later, enjoy a tour Belize City which today remains the commercial capital of the country (provided that you arrive in the morning), in addition to other historic buildings, you will see the Supreme Court buildings flanked by cannons used in the Battle of St. George’s Cay in 1798. Evening free and overnight.

Barton Creek

Today, we are on our way to San Ignacio, in route we will visit Barton Creek, a remote underground water cave system, which the Maya once used for rituals and ceremonies. While canoeing with a local guide, we will see large and colorful formations, skeletal remains and artifacts left behind by the Maya centuries ago, archaeological excavations are ongoing.  After exploring the cave, we visit the nearby Green Hills Butterfly Ranch where you will experience Belize’s biggest and best butterfly exhibit. Later, continue to San Ignacio for overnight.

Today, we will have a full day tour of Caracol Maya Ruins, an impressive 9 square mile site displaying a number of awe-inspiring temples and several stelas, enshrouded by Macaw and Tapir-filled rain forests, it is with no doubt an “off the beaten path” archaeological jewel well worth visiting. On our way back to San Ignacio, we will stop by the Rio Frio Cave, we will see the astonishing 65-feet arched entry way, openings at both ends makes flashlights unnecessary for viewing the cave’s rock formations during daylight. We will be back at our hotel late afternoon, overnight at San Ignacio.

Xunantunich onto Ambergris Cay

After breakfast, we will drive south and visit Xunantunich Maya site, we will cross the Mopan River on a hand cranked ferry and proceed up a steep incline to the site; the excavated temple, El Castillo, is one of the highest structures in all of Belize and boasts an amazing view; a reconstructed frieze, a number of stelas and a ball court can also be seen. Later, we drive back to the Belize City airport to catch our late afternoon,15-minute flight to Ambergris Cay, where we will enjoy a 4-night leisure stay at the beach.
